Last weekend’s “Shootout in Arizona” at the 3rd Annual Sun City Festival in Buckeye, Arizona lived up to its billing. The top three teams in the KCBS Team-of-the-Year standings duked it out and all of them finished in the top 10. When the smoke had cleared there was a new TOY leader. Iowa Smokey D’s was the Grand Champion and overcame their 38 point deficit to take the TOY lead from Pellet Envy by 4 points. Pellet Envy finished in third place and I Smell Smoke finished in seventh place. Neither Pellet Envy’s or I Smell Smoke’s point totals were enough to change their TOY standings.
This week all three of them meet again at the 7th Annual Plant City Pig Jam in Plant City, FL. Also cooking there this weekend is the 5th place team of Smoke on Wheels. I have not seen a list of teams but I’m sure that there are some other pretty good teams cooking there also. These teams may not be as highly ranked, but are still capable of taking home the Grand Championship.
Last year this contest had 42 teams. This year should be about the same, I’m waiting for the team count. With 250 points for Grand and 225 points for Reserve Grand, plus the bonus points of 40-50 (just guessing) the total points for the winner will be 290-300 and for reserve will be 265-275. For any of these top teams to add additional points to their TOY totals they must finished in first or second place. Iowa Smokey D’s low score is 267, Pellet Envy’s low score it 273, I Smell Smoke’s low score is 254 and Smoke on Wheels low score is 235. A third place finish would help Smoke on Wheels but not the other teams.
What will happen in the Florida sunshine this weekend? Will we have a new TOY leader? Will one of them lock it up? And who will be cooking in Tempe, Arizona on the final contest weekend of December 4?
Good luck gentlemen and thanks for making they KCBS Team-of-the Year race interesting

This is better that the NASCAR Chase which has been locked up for weeks. ZZZZZZZZ
This TOY race is interesting and exciting. If only we could see turnins and awards in real time! Good luck to all competing this weekend.

And who will have a Crackberry at the awards ceremony to post results?!!!

Steph will be hooked up... Just a feeling I have....

You've got THAT right! I received a text at 6:45 this morning telling me that Andy had a grease fire.

Damn Eddy not keeping his pits clean!!!

So give us more details! What is the weather like?

Stress can be a good thing for a cook......

From what I'm hearing:
GC - Pellet Envy
RGC - Mike Lake (can't think of his team name Rock River - sorry Mike)
3rd - IA Smokey D
8th - ISS
13th - Smoke on Wheels

I think this should put Rod up by 46 pts over Clone. Those two have the upper hand going into the final week, but Steve's still in the game (assuming he's cooking next week). Andy too! No two ways about it, it's fun and I wish them all the best!

If my math is right....

1) Pellet Envy 2917 (Low score is 283)
2) Iowas Smoky D's 2911 (Low score is 267)
3) I Smell Smoke !! 2889 (Low score is 254)

Rod and Clone can lock it up with a win in Tempe.

If my math is right....
Your math is correct if mine is,:)

Also, if my math is correct, Steve would tie Rod with 2917 points if Steve won Tempe and there were 32 teams(more than 32 and Steve would win,,,,,,So don't count him out either........

Oh, yeah. I forgot about it only being their 10 highest point totals - minor oversight.
