Nice list, I am still a little worked up about being less than a half-mile from Tyler's, #6, and not getting any BBQ

Get there it's great. Or are they closed?

Actually I had not eaten at a BBQ restaurant in Amarillo in many years until trying Tyler's a few days ago. Wife and I both were impressed.

I've eaten at Pecan Lodge (Dallas), Gatlins (Houston), and Fargos (Bryan) from the top 50 list and they were all some of the best BBQ I've ever had in that order. The brisket at Pecan Lodge is the best I've tasted.

That was my first trip to Texas and this was the first shot fired in the EPIC Landarc vs. BIL trip.

If only I had a few Thousand $ Blow Money and a month off work........

That's a good read. I still struggle with brisket so anyone who can cook it so consistently good deserves the kudos. Although I lost a little confidence in the author when they mentioned how easy it is to over cook the brisket and dry it out. I typically blame that on under cooking...

While I respect the list, if anyone is ever heading East on I-20 about 12 miles from the Louisiana state line, get off at the Waskom exit and take a left. Go up about a mile on your right. YUM.

How many you want to know about on I-20 to Dallas? How many you want to know about on I-30 and how many on I-10? The speed traps are mostly between Marshall and Longview.

And HEY! This is about good BBQ. What's up with the debil thang?

I've just had Several speeding tickets right there on my way to the Casinos........... .......Maybe Next time if Im slowing to take the exit to get some Q I wont get a ticket.......

How about on the LA side? I know every mile marker trap for many miles. Let me know next time and I'll get you the current rotation. Better yet, Y'all come on by for some Food! :becky:

Someone, not saying who, musta gotten tagged there

Thanks, I enjoyed that read. Next time I'm in Texas I will have to look one of them up!

I graduated from Longview High School in 1962 and made runs from Longview to Bossier City on a regular basis to visit Sak's Boom Boom Room to see Jerry Lee Lewis and Ace Cannon and his band and others from that era. Those speed traps must still be there looking for me! Of course there was no I-20 then, just US 80.

Blessings,
Omar

I have been to quite a few of them. There are some real gems beyond the obvious ones. To be honest though, there are some on that list that could probably be left off. There is a big disparity between probably the top 25 and the bottom 25 IMO (not based on the order in the article).

I'm not sure when your list was published.

Here is the list as of May, 2013:

I've been to at least 5 of the places on that list. I can say that only one live up to my expectations, three were solid but didn't wow me, and one was extremely disappointing. And, I've been to a dozen not on that list and typically disappointed.

I'm constantly shocked by how bad brisket is in restaurants, even (especially!) in Texas.

I have no doubts that my brisket would rank in the Texas Monthly Top 50. Probably, most Brethren veterans could claim the same.

But, there is a world of difference between babysitting 1 or 2 briskets to create nirvana and cooking 30 - 100 briskets at one time and producing consistently good results.
