Congrats to 4:20 on Grand Champion, and 3EYZ on your RGC, and everyone that walked!

I was a table captain there, today. As a table captain, I got to sample entries from all of the tables.

Congrats, all who walked!

BTW - It's always 4:20 somewhere!

Congrats to all who...well, I guess there were walks at the end ;-)! Congrats Jay, well done neighbor!

and what did you think? feed back for a cooker is always welcome.

As usual, there was a broad swing in all categories. Some of it was pretty good and some of it wasn't really up to competition standards. There was a pretty good mix of experienced and less experienced teams there and I think it showed in the entries.

That doesn't mean that a newer team didn't turn in good stuff, it's just that you can tell from the quality whether or not the team had a bad day at the office. Lots can go wrong when cooking a comp, unfortunately.

I had someone tell me yesterday that because I was a CBJ I should be able to do well in a BBQ competition. I told him, "Well, knowing what good KCBS BBQ should be is the easy part. Cooking it is the hard part and being a CBJ doesn't help much in that area."

My best advice to you is make sure that above all you put your best meat in the box.

Congrats to the 4:20 and 3-Eyz Teams!!!

And then, a HUGE thanks to Pig Pen and Dan 3-Eyz folks for their advice and help.

Rich,
Not sure how to get in touch with Pig Pen Team, but need to say, thanks very much for the fire pit to keep warm, offer to help with anything, the jar of Pepper Jelly (can you say ghost pepper?) man that stuff is good!!!!!; and the best part, a slice of the winning brisket! I know why you won 1st in Brisket!!! (Just don’t understand what happened to your “fire-place piece" that you got at the awards J )

Dan,
Thanks for the advice on the cookers and stuff. Like I said, You and Rich were having way too much relaxing fun while I was feeding the stick burner……………………….

It was great being able to bull schit and chat with the best in the game!

Also, good to see Andy with “JD’s Smokin’ Misfits Comp Team” again.

Our site was in between Serial Griller and Pig Pen. 3-Eyz were 2 sites down on the Pig Pen side. Uuummm, can’t get much better than that!!!

Ok, so this was our second comp. Once again, we learned a lot. Once again, I did not follow my own time line and rules, hence the poor scores, or at least I hope that was the reason for the poor showing.

We turned in chicken that was not bite through skin: Poor cooking on my part.

We turned in ribs that were not up to our own standards, let alone competition.

The pork was “cold as ice”. My wife and partners that stopped by to help said I should not be cutting the pork so soon before turn in. I should listen when people say things.

The brisket was over done (once again). But, it was tasty. We got 16th out of 32.

Like I said to Serial Griller, “This stuff is giving me anxiety attacks!!!!!”

All I can say is, this stuff rocks!!! After judging and just going to competitions for the last 3 years, actually being in the game is the only way to go.

Looking forward to seeing all when it gets warmer.
