OK, it's the bonus round of "Name That Wood".
My neighbor cut down a tree that looked like plumb. He said it never had fruit and and did not know what it was.

What say you?

I agree with jham0077 but a picture of one of the leaves would help to identify the exact type. Ornamental varieties often do not produce fruits but they are equally great for smoking as well.
 
Iammadman beat me to it.. Probably an ornamental. No fruit. I had an ornamental plum, and the heartwood was much darker, but there's probably a 100 different kinds. Light it up!
 
I had a ton of plum trees on my property as a kid and that looks very similar.
 
Could be a fruitless plum tree. Burn a bit of it, and if it smells good, cook with it.

As long as it flowered like a fruit tree in spring, I'd say go ahead and smoke
 
Looks like cherry to me, although I have not seen much plum so I'm not sure
