So. Cali Call Out for Some Southern Food.

You need to fine someone from South Carolina (Low Country) to pull this off.

The book he has is set in so. Carolina!

Given his shoes I would call Simply Marvelous BBQ!

The way I read it, is the BOOK takes place in Charleston, SC. But not the book signing,, otherwise why advertise in a LA news Print....

South Carolina is my specialty, but i don't cater, and don't live in So. Cali.

I would recommend the following for an authentic Charleston meal:

  • Pulled Pork or BBQ Chicken - with a mustard based sauce - yes it is as odd as it sounds, but them south carolinians............
  • Low Country Boil (also called frogmore stew, a bit further south of charleston) - Sausage (could be Q'd), Corn on the cob, potatoes, old bay seasoning (or similar) and at the last minute shrimp - all in same pot, and served on newspaper (or kraft paper if you wish)
  • Okra Soup
  • Corn bread cooked in a cast iron skillet over open flame (or on top of a dutch oven)
  • Sweet Tea (a must!) and for those not familiar, it is 2 cups of sugar (could be cut to 1.5 cups per gallon for the non-southeners) to one gallon of tea - sugar must be added while tea is still hot - no lemon flavoring - if you must offer lemons on the side, and please oh please DO NOT i repeat, DO NOT use instant tea.

Charleston is the heart of the gullah culture, so you can always research the gullah (also known as GeeChee in the charleston area) culture and do something along those lines as well.

How about benne wafers...or she crab soup.
I would be pissed if I went to a Low Country event and didnt see those 2 there some way

See I went with what I like - never a good idea when catering.

I have never developed a taste for she-crab soup, but you are right it is a necessity.

It's a farking book signing and they want a Carolina BBQ dig. It's about the theme.

I posted. I can make it happen. I'll make a big pot of Jambalya and send them ontheir way! *grins*
