Made a detour on the way to San Antonio this week. Stopped in Smitty's for lunch, and then Black's for a snack. We just missed Earl Cambell by 5 min at Smitty's (bummer). I got a sausage ring, lean beef(shoulder) and brisket alond with pickles and onions. Got a bowl of pintos to go. Got 1/2 pound brisket and a Jalapeno sausage to go at Blacks.

Here's pics of Smitty's, their pits, cutting block and lunch. Then Black's, and their cutting block.

Thillin,

What day were ya there?

We were there on Wednesday. Made City Market, Smitty's and Kreuz and Shiner too.

When we were at Kreuz there was a huge black guy coming out. Wouldn't have even thought about him being Earl Campbell though. Looked older than I'd expect Earl to be. Though maybe football's tougher on folks than I'd expect.

Darn, All o' us farkers in the area and not enough of us got together. Gotta plan better next trip.

I need a cutting block for the patio!

FatDad, find us some wood - cheap!

By the way, what kind of wood do you make those things out of?

I would imagine Earl would have to be about 60 now. And football takes it toll.

Early/mid 50's. An Earl sighting is rare these days. Bum Phillips literally ran him into the ground and he does not get around too well.

We are the same age.
Back in 1999 I cooked for a local car dealer -"BIG UT SUPPORTER"
and I cooked Earl's pork sausage for people.
Earl came out and talked and he is a down to earth guy.
He had gray hair then but he looked like he could still play
ball.
GREAT GUY !

Earl Christian Campbell (born March 29, 1955 in Tyler, Texas) is a former professional American Football running back and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
