Another forum leads me to this question: Do you like this payout for a 15K contest?

Everything looked good to me except at the very bottom...

Why would 5th per category get $100 and then also note that 6th -10th also get the same $100 per category ?

Trying to give away the 15K. I didnt feel that was a problem, should I change 6-10 to $50.00?

I would make it $50 instead of $100 for 6-10 per category and then move that extra $1000 to the GC and RGC to make it $3K and $2K

(assuming trophies/ribbons or metals are being handed out as well).

Arlie-
I like keeping the $100 payout to 10th. $100 will at least make you feel like you made money on the catagory. Makes it a memorable 10th -- and you would come back again.

Not sure what the size of the $15K contest is... but if you have 50 Teams.... being in the top 10 is deserving of the nice chedda!

I agree with Andy. I'd keep it spread out and not just for Top 2 overall and Top 5 in categories.

I agree with Andy as well. But I really like to see paydays for 3rd through 5th overall. It would be especially nice for us as when we do well at a contest, it's usually 3rd to 5th place , not GC or RGC and 90% of the time, those don't pay.

I like it and I like it alot looks great

paying out like that would keep more teams coming back. An award of any size makes a person feel good rather then pushing their pit off a cliff.

I like it too. I haven't gotten close to 1st or 2nd overall yet, but I do like the payout instead of just a ribbon for 6-10 where I do sometimes finish. As stated before it feels good and can help the funds for the next contest so my son-in-laws with less funding can play along and that gets me in more contests. It could be the difference between me doing full comps instead of having to settle for some backyard comps.

a variation of the 15 k payout.

We like Arlies
I am thinking of paying Top Ten Over All at Stagecoach Saturday
GC at $5,000 RGC $3,000
Got to see my finale numbers next week
Could be more
Yes those 6 though 10s love a taste

Also putting Good Money on Best Booth
Same money as Meats (does not count toward GC)
We are entertainers Brothers
it is about making the crowd happy
With Big Peoples Choice Contests and interesting Booths

Stagecoach 2007 The last place team took home $750
They won Best Booth and got a Peoples Choice split

I like the pay out through 10th. The only thing I migh change would be the 6-10th place per category to $50 and take the extra $250 from each category and add it to the RGC through 5th overall. This pays out through 10th which is very nice but it adds some to the overall and keeps it a little better than individual category.

Grand Champion 2,500
Grand Reserve 1,500
3rd place 1,000
4th place 750
5th place 500
Each Category 1st 750
Each Category 2nd 500
Each Category 3rd 250
Each Category 4th 150
Each Category 5th 100
Each Category 6th - 10th 50

I like the idea of paying to 10 places, but I don't like the fact that it's the same amount as 5th place. To me, it just kind of dilutes 5th place.

My .02 cents.

I'd change 6-10 to 50 and put the extra 250 into the first four - maybe750, 600, 350, 200. Last year I had a pair of thirds overall and missed by 4 points in each case. But I wouldn't reward below 5th overall except maybe with a ribbon to 10th.

I notice that everyone talks in absolute terms instead of a percentage of teams.
We got paid for 8th place ribs one time, which was nice. But, there were only 19 teams so we were pretty much Dead Ass Middle. Just not right.

I think in terms of percentage (15-20% or so) of teams entered, with a minimum of 5 in each meat and 2 or 3 overall. That would be plenty up to about 25 or 30 teams.
At 50 teams, I would like to see 10 paid in each meat and 5 overall.
At 100 teams, make it 15-20 in each meat and 5+ overall.

Payouts should reflect the actual placing of the team based on the size of the event--not a single number--at least to me.

JMHO.
