We're sold out (teams), but are still accepting help on the judging side and people's choice teams.

Admission to the event in exchange for your qualified BBQ knowledge.

Certification preferred (KCBS or MBN), but not required (email us if you think you can judge, but don't have a current cert and we'll review)

send your information to info@windycitybbqclassic.com

This event has 2 divisions:
Professional (teams cooking for the judges)
People's Choice (teams providing sampling to general public)

People's Choice GC is $5k, 2nd $2500 3rd $1000. There's no cost to sign up to be a people's choice team - your cost is providing small bbq samples (1000 portions) to the general public to compete for their vote.

This all inclusive event includes all-you-care-to-responsibly-consume Craft Beer (Lagunitas Brewery) and cocktails (Tito's handmade). Live blues music all day, downtown Chicago on the lakefront...this is gonna be fun!

The entertainment and brewers/vendors has expanded, looks to be a cool event!

rubbbq, do you know when the hog butchering demo is supposed to happen? Wouldn't mind checking that out if we aren't actively working on a box

Not yet, we'll have those details in the next 10 days or so..

looking forward to a great event!

I'll be judging this one. Seems like a good time!

I'll be there to judge. This looks like such a great contest that I'm foregoing another festival for this one that day. Looking forward to this one for sure!

Ron, sorry I missed you. We used you drum this weekend. What judging table did you sit at?

All in all, a very, um, unusual contest. I only attended as a visitor last year due to health issues, but this was a much bigger undertaking and had it's share of challenges.

On the positive side - Beautiful venue, excellent availability of coal disposal and trash bins, and an outstanding meal Saturday night. Organizers did a great pig roast on top of chicken, and participants each brought a side, making for a heck of a feast! Lagunitas also provided free beer Saturday evening until around 9:30 I think. The chickens and ribs provided ( 4 chickens and 5 or 6 slabs of ribs) were very nice as well.

I was too busy cooking to be sure, but it looked like a number of vendors, particularly breweries, were no-shows. The only one we saw all weekend was Lagunitas, but I could be mistaken.

Despite the pitfalls, and there were plenty, had a great time, but was disappointed with issues with power and spaces promised vs marked. In the future, having boxes available at the cooks meeting, and not at 830 turn in morning, better enforcement of quiet time, and giving out ALL awards at the awards ceremony instead of leaving folks in limbo would go a long way toward an even better event.

Thanks to Jared for chasing us down on meat inspection, seemed like every time he came we were trying to get wrist bands, registered, or pick up our meat.

And a BIG thanks to brethren Matt (sorry I forgot your Brethren name!) who, after judging chicken and ribs (another twist to this one, one group of judges did ribs and chicken, and another did pork and brisket!) stopped by to visit and thank us for loaning him some dish soap at St. Charles earlier this year. He ended up hanging around, having a little food, and helping us clean up by doing a pan of dishes! Thanks again Matt and good luck to you and your Mrs. on the due very soon baby!

RonL also stopped by after his judging shift was over.

The bands seemed good from what I heard of them, but were drowned out near us by generators, and other teams loud music

I was glad to do it! Our little guy will have his own UDS probably before he can walk.

Ron, sorry I missed you. We used you drum this weekend. What judging table did you sit at?

REALLY? "What table and seat did you sit at" seems to be the new "judge 6" hunt since KCBSore has made it's debut. There is a reason KCBS goes to all the trouble of a double blind judging system.
When I'm visiting cook camps I don't want to see pics of your boxes and you ain't knowin where the hell I sat.
