Gave my wife a limit of 100 dollars for my Xmas gift. She always goes crazy but I'd rather buy the kidos more stuff (cause their stuff is pretty fun to) Anyways, so if you had 100 dollars what is 1 item you would get or would you get a bunch of little things. Also there is a loophole if she wants to combine money with the Grandparents they can go in together and pool there money to get something larger. So really maybe 200-300 tops. Guess I'm looking for two lists. 1 for 100 dollars and under and 1 for over. Thanks guys.

PS I have nothing, I can use anything, I want it all.

Gifts for $100 limit
A decent 3 piece knife set (chef, boning, paring knife)
Thermapen
If you have a weber kettle - gourmet grill grate system
A-Maze-N smoker dust tray w/ dust
Simply Marvelous Sampler Pack
Parts to build a Weber Mini Smokey Mountain

Over $100 limit if they pool money together
Weber One Touch Gold (at minimum)
Weber Performer Platinum
Weber 26in One Touch
Parts to build yourself a UDS

If you are truly starting with a blank slate (no rubs, no cooker) then definitely get a Weber OTG, thermometer (thermapen or Thermoworks rt600c), and the SM Sampler pack at the minimum. It'll be your best xmas ever.

A qrt of Glenfiledch and a hand full of Cobias:-D 2 qrts of Glennfildech and a box of Cobias:-D:-D

I wouldn't ask for a thermo pen, but I do agree with the box of cohibas. OR.... Rocky Patel Autum '08 if you can find them. Best resonable price cigar I have found in some time. It is great.

This might be a little conservative but for me it'd probably be half a cord of some good wood or something of that sort.

Lodge cast iron Dutch Oven, lodge cast iron skillet. Fresh tub of lard.

If you have nothing, don't buy a Thermapen; it's a luxury. You can get a serviceable quick read for under $20, leaving you $80 for other stuff. And evidently, you need stuff.

Do you have nothing at all ? Or you have a Weber kettle or other and want accessories? If you have no smoker them it's:
Weber Kettle or Brinkmann Gourmet( u will have to do a cpl easy mods) or a Big Poppas Drum Kit ($139).

If u have a smoker and need extras then:
ThermoWorks Meat Thermo ($19-$24 Amazon), Good Tongs and Meat Fork, Charcoal Chimney, Cpl of Stainless Steel Pans, Hot Gloves ( maybe Welders gloves), Various Rubs, Grate Brush, Injector Needle...

If you truly have nothing, I would start with a cooker and some charcoal. And some meat. Everything else is a luxury. On a tight budget, I'd go with Craigslist. You should be able to find a decent 22' kettle for $20 and up and that's probably the most versatile piece of equipment you can have. If you're particularly adventurous, ask for parts to make a UDS. Either will get you going on a tight budget.

Merry Christmas and welcome to the BBQ Brethren! :welcome:

Ok sorry. Yes I do have some "stuff" basics really. I have a kingsford grill/smoker. and currently working on a couple UDSs. Getting more involved with true bbq and smoking since finding this site and learning from you guys. That being said,

I like the thermapen and pitmasterIQ.

Buying a chord of good smoking wood is high on the list to, BubbyQue.

aawa, any advice on knife sets?

Here's my wishlist!
1.) Spitjack Injector
2.) KME Knife Sharpening System
3.) Couple more Wusthoff kitchen knives to my collection
4.) Thermapen
5.) Big giant freaking roll of butcher paper
6.) Chord of post oak wood
7.) 44 mag shells for my Ruger Redhawk
8.) Bushnell Banner Illuminated Crossfire 4-16x40mm Scope
9.) Arbolito Relincho Fixed Blade knife

Just a few things....:)

For knives check amazon for Victorinox or Mercer knives. Both are very good

I have the Victornix Fibrox knives. I pieced it together starting with the 8" chef, 6" stiff boning knife, and paring knife.

Those 3 knives will run you about $70. Add in the steel for another $20.

Another good knife set for the money is one that Bludawg linked in a previous thread. It is $120 but you get 7 pieces w/ a carrying case. Then get a chef knife or santoku later and you have a great knife set.
