I recently ordered the Pitmaster iQue110 smoker controller for my UDS. (If you plan to order one use coupon code bubbaboard for $20 off)

It was on back order when I purchased but I knew that and I got it before they said I would so I was happy.

Came well packaged

For $132 shipped to my door it came with everything needed to run my UDS

(this slid perfectly over my 3/4" pipe nipple and attached to the hose great)

Also came with instructions (I didn't even read them :icon_blush:)

So for the first run I took a 6lb butt and seasoned it up and let it sit in the garage fridge overnight

When I got home from work in the morning (I work midnights) I gathered up everything and set up the UDS

Since I have no handles on my UDS I had no way to hang the iQue110 so I had to fabricate something real quick using scrap 2x4's and a few screws.

Loaded up the charcoal basket with Kingsford Competition (that I got for $2 a bag on clearance) and cherry wood.

Started half a chimney of charcoal

When it was ready I poured it in the charcoal basket and put that in the UDS.

Put the lid on and already I was getting some smoke.

Set the iQue to 235 (It was flashing green to show it was a low temp) and then threw the butt on.

I went to bed at this point and woke up 7 hours later to a solid green light on the iQue and a pit thermometer reading 235 on the button. I failed to get any further pics at this point as I got a little busy making beans and I still had to work that night  Needless to say it held perfect temp for the 11 hours I needed it to and my butt came out perfect and was pulled great. Taste wise nothing new there but the fact that I didn't have to fiddle with the pit air intake and it was exactly at the temp I wanted was amazing.

All in all it was well worth the $132 and I am excited to use it again real soon.

Really enjoyed the review:-D Leaning real hard towards one!

Thanks AJP. I've been waiting for a UDS review from one of the Brethren. And thanks a lot for the promo code!

Promo code has expired.

Where did you find that one?

How does this thing work? Does it add air to the vents when the temp is dropping new to BBQ and very confused...

Yes, it manipulates the airflow with a fan to raise or lower the temps, to keep it at a preset temp.

So do you just light a crap load of charcoal and let it go on its own right from the start?

No, if you look at the photo's, he put a good load of unlit charcoal and wood in the basket. Then added a half a chimney of lit coals on top. Those lit coals will slowly light the others and the blower on the iQue will add just enough oxygen to maintain the set temperature.
For those without a temp control you turn those ball valves to adjust the right amount of o2.

Thanks for the review !! Been looking at these for awhile, need to go ahead an pull the trigger !

How are you setting you openings in the UDS with this? You close all of them except where the probe goes in?

I also just noticed that you put your lit charcoal on the left side of your UDS, which is where the Ique was blowing the air. Was that intentional? What did your charcoal basket look like when you were done?

I was going to try this on my next try with my Ique. So far when I've used my Ique I've put the lit charcoal in the middle and what happens is that the charcoal on the right side of the basket would be used up and the charcoal on the left side of the basket would be largely unused. I guess the fan is blowing the fire towards the opposite side.

Thanks for posting the pics! I have never personally used one of these but they look like a good product for the price. I had a chance to talk with the designer/manufacturer of these a few months agao at a bbq banquet. They seemed like a very nice group of people and I would not nesitate to do busniess with them if I didnt already own a fan system.

Would really like to hear feedback from other Brethren that have used them...
