What is your favorite local food or something your area specializes in that you may not be able to get anywhere?

The latest throwdown inspired me to really think about all the great things I can get locally here in Kansas City. It doesn't mean you can't get the same thing or at least something similar elsewhere, but it is stuff that produced within 30 miles of my house just north of Kansas City.

So without further ado, here you go...
Oak Ridge BBQ (and fellow Brethren KCMike) is located about 10 miles from me in Kearney, Missouri. The sauce is Galaxy and is made right here in Smithville, MO. It's still pretty new, but I really like it. We used it on our 3rd place pork at the Platte City contest in May.
The Apple brats are from Paradise Meats in Trimble, Mo. Several of you know about these guys and they ship Wagyu briskets across the country for comps. These brats are fantastic, though.

Kid 1 and 3 here. My two oldest used the apple brats in the Kids Q at Platte City and did pretty well.

And besides, what's a more important local produce than kids!

Now they think we always need to have them and they want to cook them when we do. So that's pretty cool.

The finished product. No, the chips aren't local. The tomato is from Arkansas (all the grocery had and my garden isn't ready yet). However, the milk is from Shatto Dairy in Osborne, Mo. I got to know this guy a few years ago when I wrote a story about him and it's a truly remarkable success story. Check them out. It's great milk, ice cream, cheese, cream, etc. And you'd never meet a nicer guy.

So, that's my list. What's yours?

Egads, I live in California, what can't we get?
1. Fresh produce all year long, most of it high quality.
2. Lockeford Sausage
3. Phoenix Pastifacio Pasta
4. Genova Delicatessan Ravioli
5. Napa and Sonoma wines
6. Russian River, Thrid Street Aleworks, Lagunitas Brewing, Drakes Brewing, Turmer Pils, 21st Amendment...

I could go on and on

These have been a regional favorite for as long as I can remember, made about 10 miles down the road at W.A. Beans-

And of course you're not a true Mainer unless you know someone who fishes for a living and will sell these right off the boat-

Fresh ahi poke. I know it's not BBQ, but it's served at every BBQ event that we attend out here. In fact, it's one of the ancillary categories at the Hilo Bay BBQ competiton on July 4th.

Good topic.

+1 on lobster (and fishing friend)...fiddleheads, maple sryup, Grand Manam dulse and fresh from hens arse eggs

Hand-harvested and hand-processed wild rice. I absolutely love it. It is so much different than cultivated wild rice. It is more expensive than the grocery store stuff but is so worth it in my opinion. I know a few harvesters and can get it for a good value.

im not sure my picture was so large first picture i ever posted here. we use this to make wine, salad, and use it as fresh fruit in Arizona. i know it costs one piece 5 dollars in nyc.

Ok I'm not trying to be a jackass here so don't take it that way. But the best local thing I have from my town is:

Tallgrass Brewery.

Their beer is fantastic and if you stumble upon some in your liquor store I suggest grabbing some. So you folks in Minnesota and Arkansas and of course Kansas go grab some (I know it's in other states but those are the big 3 as far as i know).

Plus I live in a small college town so there isn't much of locally produced stuff besides veggies around here haha. I mean there is some meat lockers but I have yet to try any...no room for a bunch of meat.
