My gas grill heat shield are rusted off and money is tight right now. Our company has a metal shop and I was thinking of asking to make me new heat shields. Do they have to be porcelain coated? Is it safe to cook on regular steel? Thanks in advance...

The ones I have on one of my gassers are plain old steel.

No problem. Steel and cast iron has been used over open campfires forever.

The porcelain coating only adds longevity to the shield and easy clean-up.

Regular steel is fine as long as it is not galvanized.

I would just burn them off, get em good and hot before you cook

Most stores like Lowe's and Home Depot carry universal ones really cheap. I replaced mine a while back on all three burners for less than $10.

My local lowes wanted 24.99 each and I need 4. I can afford to spend 100 right now. I wish I had those prices.

now with pictures

I finally got the parts and its a big improvement......What a difference.
