Just out of interest how low does the smoke stack typically go in a reverse offset smoker? I am currently looking at a Lang and I did not realize the smoke stack went that low, anyone?

Whoa there. First off thank you very much for the compliments. Please do keep in mind that there have been and are a number of very talented folks and friends also involved in all this. While a lot of the welding is mine, other major stuff was also handled by my
friend Jim, who is still to this day very camera shy. My friend Ray owns the plasma table and does a bunch of seriously cool stuff on his own too.

The overall design is months of researching other builds and a couple experiments I have conducted on my other smokers all being combined with the available stuff I could get my hands on for a reasonable price too.

As for the chimney/stack I wanted the nice Looking chrome stack we have all come to lust over from the jambo pits on tv. At the same time I wanted to experiment with a larger and more adjustable stack on this build. It may get changed again but I am pretty sure it will work like the smaller version I did before. Stale smoke and being able to raise it high enough off the rack is my only concern. Again, easily fixed with the plasma cutter too. I purposely left the design of the inner adjustable sleeve long. Just in case.

It's been a fun build and I am looking forward to lighting it off and seeing if the draw is as controlable as i want and the firebox is large enough that I don't end up staying up all night tossing splits into it. If not, then the plasma cutter will come back out and an upgraded firebox will go on it. We still have plenty of room on the back of the trailer yet. Also need to start the warmer box. It that's a phase II project.

Thanks again for the kinds words but I have to say I have been equally impressed with a number of the other builds on here and the net already. Hopefully this baby will cook for us. Thanks again and glad you and others are enjoying the build! It's fun to do.

Are there any Lang / Meadow Creek owners out there who could confirm the location of the vent / chimney stack on the inside of the cooking chamber on their smokers and perhaps post a pic? The chimney / vent on a Lang appears to come from the highest point of the cooking chamber.

I am currently thinking of buying one and one of the criticisms I have read is that they burn a lot of wood / charcoal and I was wondering if perhaps this approach will have any effect on this. Perhaps this is what you wish to test...

Its a design I tested on my smaller smoker and liked the results so I added it to this one to see how it pans out. I will post the results for all to see. I also wanted everything completely adjustable from the intake, to the reverse flow return plate gap to the stack length, to the exhaust flapper. I am a hot rodder by nature and learned more than a couple things about intake runner length, and exhaust scavaging over the years. Figured, what could it hurt. Its just some extra time with the welder and a chunk of pipe. Besides it worked on the smaller smoker with a three inch pipe.

So if my theory and other tests scale up I am good. If not I can shorten the length and still keep it adjustable from the top all the way down to the grill deck. Test runs start either tomorrow or next week. Waiting on the call from my painter right now.

Every time I look at your build, I look at mine and think, "man I gotta do this, do that, do the other thing..." We're kinda settling in some areas to conserve cash and your build is makin' me feel bad about it!

My build is only solid until someone walks by yours and then all of the sudden I look amateur! Yep..I've decided..I think you're gonna need to stop updating us.. It's detrimental to my build:razz:!

Well I snagged the idea while walking around the local boat show, so I can't really take credit except for incorporating it into my smoker design. Enjoy!

I wouldn't worry about what yours vs. mine vs. anyone elses looks like. If you like it, then thats all that matters. If you see us cooking some place, be sure to stop by, pull up a chair and have a cold one with us. One of the great things the misses and I love about the car show hobby is how many great friends we have made over the years just by having something sitting out and folks stop by to talk and visit. Same goes for this hobby.

We have met a ton of wonderful people along the way and don't intend to stop now. Life is way too short. If I can help in any way with your build, let me know. All the best.

I am legitimately amped by your build, though. Very inspirational! I can't remember if you said, but did you plasma cut the lettering or use a jigsaw? or neither?

I hear ya. I did the lettering design with my friend ray on a fender that we had not bent yet but the basic shape was cut out. Next we laid out the lettering in the computer using a cad drawing, and then he dropped the flat stock for the fender onto the plasma table. Here is the video again. The plasma cutter in combination with his table make short work of the lettering and then we popped the sheet stock into the metal brake and bend it to spec to form the fenders.

Picking up the smoker from the paint shop tonight. Can hardly wait to see how it comes out.

Yes the company we purchased the paint from had incorrect color chart sheets on their website that did not match the datasheets. The lower temp paints were available in gloss, not the high temp one (1500 degree) we selected. They also didn't offer to send us any paint to correct this either but did correct their website shortly after that. A little disappointing exerperience but that water under the bridge at this point.

I am doubtful we will need this high of a temp the next time and I will be using the temp gun we have to check the external temps of the firebox and cooking box locations. Hindsight is always perfect don't you know.

If our firebox turns out to be too small then we will just fire the plasma cutter back up and lop it off there this fall and build a larger one like others on here have. Then just sandblast the whole thing again (cooker only) and repaint with the lower temp paint. Look for the data on the external temps to appear shortly. Dragging it home tonight and then will be tossing couple logs and charcoal into it tonight for a test run. I can't wait till the weekend. I still need to put our Menards special egg cooker together too.
