Sorry if I didn't see the answers in the great UDS thread.

I just picked up a brand new 3o gallon open top to go with my 18 inch C.L. weber find.

Problem, after unbolting the ring and removing the lid, my weber lid does not fit.

I flipped the drum over and bingo the lid sits snug, so...do I de-lid this thing and run the drum upside down, ring side down?

Problem #2 the seal on the lid is white and seams rubbery, is this heat proof?

Thanks!

Remove the seal. "De Head" the bottom and it will work great. Removable bottom is nice for cleaning.

^^^^^^^he's the master of UDS build. What he said. that sounds like the sweet accidental covienence.

Your other option if that 18" Weber CL find is complete is to cut all the way around the lower section of the Weber about 2 inches below the rim and then set that ring that you just cut off into the open top of the drum. Your Weber lid will then fit perfectly since it is setting on it's own rim.

Check out the 5th picture in the first post on this page and you'll see what I mean.

Thats exactly what I did with mine. This makes it easier to remove the lid for cleaning. Downside is the water generated during the cook will leak out of the UDS. My 30 gallon thats under construction will look identical to this one.
