Got my UDS built and had its inaugural run yesterday. Smoked an 8# Boston Butt, turned out killer. Had 8 people over and it was gone in about 5 minutes. I can't wait for my next smoke.

Most i've tried was 8 slabs of ribs, 4 on the uppper grate and 4 on the lower. worked perfect, only think I had to do was to rotate the grates about half way through, becuase the lower is a little bit hotter.

but worked like a charm

I have seen them advertising around here on Craigslist - when you get it, can you give us a review as inquiring minds would like to know about the craftsmanship and its versatility.

Well I just ordered a UDS from White Arc Smokers. I hope I don't regret buying this and taken the short cut rather then building my own. I'm just so dam busy I rather spend a little more and have it home already. Guess I need to change my avatar now from a gas grill to a drum :-D.
I saw someone post in this thread that people should know a few things BEFORE they season it. Is there any advise that I should do from the start?

Thanks in advance again!

First UDS Build

I'm over halfway through this monster thread and about half done with my build. Got a closed top drum, cut the head, drilled intake holes, burned barrel, cleaned barrel, drilled grate holes, bought cheapo walmart kettle for lid and grate.

Next I'll sand and paint, attach lid and season :clap2:

THANK YOU to a ton of folks here for all the work to develop this system and generously offer your experiences for newbies like me.

I will post pics but the cell phone card isn't cooperating right now

I plan on doing a full review from start to finish. It's the least I can do for this community.

If it helps I started a thread that is documenting everything from start to prob my first cook. I plan on posting pic.. <cough> I mean Pr0n.
