Yet another UDS build!! But is mine any different?

You'll want to be able to close off that exhaust when you're done cooking...Do you have something that will plug those up air tight? Cork might fit ok in the chrome tips but what ever you use just make sure it can cut off the air. It'll save you tons of fuel!

I plan on incorporating exhaust control into the handles. Handles will look normal but under the lid I will have flaps. Turn the handles on top to open or close the exhaust underneath. Waiting on parts now.

Ah...very cool. I didn't want you to have a great looking exhaust but have no way to shut it down..lol

Ok I finally got around to finishing my lid. Things you may notice

The handles also control the exhaust by a simple quarter turn you can open or close each.

Flaps are held tight by a piece of flat stock. It also doubles as a support. Without it the handles felt loose. The flat keeps it all tight. It took me some trial and error to figure this system out.

Welded some nuts on as stops. Also a lid hook.

All this looks kind of cluttered underneath but clean on top.

Made some TEE hooks for the charcoal basket.

I have a big basket out of a big weber charcoal grade and a small one made of a smaller grate. I like the smaller one better. I just figured a big one might would come in handy for longer cooks. Not sure....

sweeeet Blue mist of the gods ! that is a new "twist" I Like and might steal.....

I seen this in your post and was curious what it is? Mostly the Auber temp controller

"The UDS" W/ an Auber temp. Controller w/ 20CFM Blower

Got my drum good and seasoned. Did a test burn Friday night. Temp wasn't the easiest to control. I think mostly due to some air leak issues. I installed a rope seal on the lid and also siliconed the intake vent. I hope to put a butt on it tonight around 12. Dove season comes in tomorrow and I hope to have it done mid morning so I can let it rest a few hours before lunch. Wish me luck!

Darn nice work. Sealing up the leaks makes a big difference. You should be able to kill the fire entirely and save leftover charcoal for later. Now break it in with a fatty!

This really is one of the most impressive UDS builds I've seen. Would love to see some cook pics after you get some meat going.

two 7lbs butts went on at 5:30pm. Hope 12hrs are enough. Getting up early to wrap and put in cooler. Hitting the dove fields for a hunt. busting those out for lunch.
