No idea how to title this...UDS with wood?

Here's my thought. If anyone has ever done this, please provide feedback.

Whenever I use my UDS, I always forget to mix in the wood chunks. They always end up on top. Has anyone ever tried sticking a split of wood, standing it on it's end in the middle of the basket and putting charcoal/lump around it? There is something telling me that won't work, but it might be worth a shot. It also might be the greatest thing in the world that everyone already does and I am oblivious too it.

As peeps said, others have done it and like it. I didn't try it when I had my drum, but I would be interested to see if it works. Please report back if you do try it.
