bbq trailer insurance question

I need some input on what type of insurance can be written for a enclosed bbq trailer with a pellet cooker on a 6' open portion of the trailer? My insurance agent doesn't want to carry the insurance because of the risk of carrying fuel for the cooker. Sounds to me like they are not understanding the nature of the bbq cooker or contests. Anyone have any ideas?

Who are you insured with? I am with Allstate and only had to make a phone call.

Make it simple for them.

Tell them to insure a trailer worth X amount. Done.

No, i don't sell insurance, just drank my lunch.

Doesn't the tow vehicle insure the trailer when hooked and property insurance cover where it is parkeD?????

from what the agent told me that, when hooked to the truck liability would cover the trailer if it wasn't my fault. Homeowners should cover it when it is in the driveway.

If you are just using it for personal use, the liability is usually covered in your PAP. Your HO policy would cover things like theft or damage at home or at a competition, or in transit. If you are using it for business or commercial use you should have a seperate policy. Each state is different.

Yes, I am in insurance agent in CA.

I just called my State Farm agent and he told me when I get done to send him the following:
- pics
- cost of materials
- what I'd ask for it if I sold it (since no labor costs were involved and alot of the materials were purchased wholesale)

I'd have another talk with the agent, and make sure they understood what you needed. If that doesn't work, I'd be asking friends and family for their experience with another agent.

Mine told me that it was covered if I was towing it with my truck unless what I was towing was for commercial use.

state farm

An umbrella policy is usually for just Liability, it does not cover theft, physical damage... You guys need to sit down with your agents, spell out what coverages you are looking for and make sure they are telling you in plain English what you have. Make them earn their policy commission.

There are two ways to do this. You can add it as an endorsement generally to the tow vehicle and that is the way many agents will do it. I do not recommend that. I recommend a stand alone policy that has full coverage as the other policy generally only covers the trailer while it is attached to the vehicle (so if sitting somewhere it may not be covered).
I would ask those questions. PM me if you need to find an agent in your area! I am sure I know someone around there.
