Bradford Pear for burning/smoking?

Just curious if these produce useful wood for smoking. I've had a couple blow down with the recent storms (you can sneeze at them and they lose branches) and am flush with their wood. The wood itself seems a bit soft as I can bury a hachet several inches with just a medium blow. It will obviously need some seasoning first, but if I can I'd like to put what I've got to good use.

I use Bradford alot. Had the same thing happen to a neighbor a coupla weeks ago. Bradford's actually pretty hard when dry. But that'll take time. To speed things up, split it up now and let the summer do its thing.

Hard like friggin granite when its dry. splits easy wet thought. I cut some pear wheels from a large trunk that were about about 3 inchs thick. With the bark still on it, the wheel can take a full swing from a 7lb splitting wedge and just about dent. The wood is sweet smelling, on the mild side and doesnt burn very hot so you'll need to augment with other wood with higher BTUs.

Hey Phil; where can I get some of that pother wood?

Seriously, I smoked to shoulders and a butt last weekend using hickory to start and bradford to finish.
Foiled, I could easily get the smoke chamber to 350 using Bradford. I think what makes Bradford hard to split is the knots from the branches.

Regardless, Bradford is definately good smoking wood.
