Looks good Jason. Hey I was just down your way a few weeks ago and couldn't believe the snow you still had.

Here are a few pics of one I built this afternoon, it is my fourth build but the only one I took any photos of.
Sorry for the poor quailty pics all I had was my phone.

UDS Progression

Here is my first UDS. It had four daisy vents for intakes and a Weber kettle lid vent on the drum lid.

Later I found some 38" tall food grade unlined barrels and things got crazy from then on!

Here's one for now... I'll be installing handles soon. More pics of the build can be found at the link in my sig. There's also a video I made that showed how I built my charcoal basket (bend the expando the opposite way that I did and it's MUCH easier to do).

Ok, these all look so nice! (mine is the only ugly one I see) Come on guys, lets see some greasy, grimey, well-used drums!

(anti-shiny grate mod)

oooooook, just for you when I get home I will snap a pic of the UDS and MUDS and how "anti-shiny grate modded" they are.
:heh:

Here it is. My first and I think chicken may be on the menu for today.

There are a few things I will do different after this basket.

I did go put a handle on the basket last night.. Kinda looks like a huge lantern or something. It reaches to just under the cooking grate so no leaning into the drum for me.

Extension ring cut from donor barrel

Hammered out to fit barrel

Hardware installed and seasoning started
Thermo and temp probe ports

I've built a few but this is the best looking (and best cooking) one to date. I used a cake or pie pan to control the air from the bottom. This seems to be effected less by the wind and puts the air intake directly under the fire basket. Next time I would use heaver metal for the intake control but the idea still works well IMO.

I have to give the credit to mister "Weber". I thought is its good enough for the Weber kettle then it might just work on the UDS. :becky:
