Yesterday I was at Lowes and saw a discounted broken box charbroil infrared gas grill grate that is used on all of their fancy infrared grills. They're supposed to cook evenly and reduce flare ups since the flames can't go through the tiny little holes. I figured it was worth a test at home since I was cooking chicken that night.

I got some K lit and placed down the center of the grill.

When I placed the grate on the grill it started smoking right away. Probably from oils on the metal. It went away fairly quickly.

I seasoned up some chicken and placed on the grates.

So far no flare ups.

Overall review is that it did a good job of eliminating flare ups but it did not have that same "grilled chicken" taste that you get with the meat direct over the coals. Not sure if I'll use it next time for chicken but it would work nice for grilling veggies so they don't fall though into the fire.

Thanks for lookin!

Looks like it might give a similar performance as the grill grates that I have seen discussed around here... Give it a chance to get seasoned up a bit and it might be a really nice tool to have on hand...

interesting. if i can find it cheap i'll get one. just another "toy".
