information to scale

hey all,

SWMBO's birthday is comin up, and she's BIG into baking. Cakes, pies, she soon wants to take on bread. So im wondering if anyone has any Kitchen Scale recommendations...

P.S. i'll use it too when i make up a rub recipe every now and then....

Google would be my next choice and look for customer reviews.
I am assuming a digital electronic scale for bakers is where I would start.

It was pretty cheap and seems to be pretty good. I like that it has a tare feature. I have calibrated it against a friend's triple beam, and it has done well so far.

I use a Salter mechanical, but, I would not buy it again. I have used my sisters Oxo and my brothers Cuisineart and prefer them. Here is why.

1. Digital is far more precise than my analog scale for price
2. Digital zero works a lot better and can be re-zeroed on the fly
3. Larger weighing platform allows for larger bowls, plates and flex-boards
4. Cost differential for a good analog scale (with no zero function) is minimal
5. Digital scale is thinner and can be stored on edge in cabinet

Also, if you are going to make breads and cakes, get one that measures more than a couple of pounds, it will make things easier.

That is nicer than the one I work with. the one at my job has teh digital reading part to close to the scale plate and casn be hard to read with larger bowls. If you are looking for one that is digital look to see if you can sit a larger bowl on it without completely blocking the digital read out

Or look at the Oxo which has a detachable wired readout that allows you to see the numbers from a foot away.

thanks folx i just knowed we'd have someone that knows, i know professor salt uses a scale especially for his pizzas, (his discussion made me think of it) maybe he'll chime in too.

thanks for this heads up, i actually just ordered it, i thought it woulda been more spendy... im glad it's not !

11lb weight reading, pull out digi read out pretty sweet
