Jackson, MS - Give it to God - Video

I guess i will have to put this to bed before it gets out of hand.

First, as forum owner, this is a tough call for myself and our mods.

Personally, I find religion and how I choose to practice it a very personal thing, and when I come across those that insist on preaching their beliefs to me(even those I am in full agreement with), I will admit that my tolerance nosedives extremely fast. The folks who come to my door carrying whichever book it is they are preaching are not normally greeted very cordially. MY PERSONAL opinion, is that they, without knowing me, have NO RIGHT to assume I agree with, or care what they think or believe. Its personal to them, and its personal to me. Go away. You dont know my beliefs, unless i am in my church. My front porch is not the place to make that decision, and my wife of a different faith finds these folks EXTREMELY offensive. i agree with her.

Thats my opinion.. like it, dont like, do whatever.. thats my take regarding my front porch, and honestly, it would extend to a playground, a shopping mall, or my 20x20 at a BBQ contest. When or if I am approached publicly by those holding the little placards or bibles who begin preaching to me, be sure they are shut down or out very quickly. Not because i agree or disagree, but i find it rude for them to assume i agree or want to hear it.

That being said, this forum is public.. as a member, i choose NOT to open these videos. I saw the first 2 and decided I am not a fan and find them way over the top. The BBQ part is pretty cool, but mixing in the religion just wasnt for me.

However, as the forum owner, and part of the admin staff, we have to live by the rules written and the very top of the rule set says we can not moderate on content and we must moderate on a strict set of rules. The videos are not breaking any of our rules, and everyone has the option of opening it or not opening it.. I know what to expect in them, and choose not to open them. I suggest others who find the content questionable do the same.. or take it a step further and use the ignore button.

This approach is ONLY being taken because they are videos, where there is an option to open or not open. Be aware, and take this as a heads up, if tit ever makes it to text form in posts, or begins to embed itself in other threads or inappropriate places, WE WILL step in, even if it means a modification to the ruleset. This IS first and foremost a BBQ forum and not a pulpit.

One other thing folks should know and take into consideration is that we, the mods and myself have received other messages regarding these videos and messages. Everyone must understand, our demographic is HUGE and of all different faiths. This must be respected. Comments like "Everything comes form God" has already sparked a dozen PMs to my PM box. This is one belief, and not everyone's. Just like in BBQ, there is no one way, in faith, there is no one belief.

My job here is to do what is best for the forum as whole and our admin staff will watch and act accordingly.

At this point, anyone who has seen Jeff's videos before knows before they watch it what kind of message they will hear.

It really is as simple as not watching it.

I've been sitting back watching the fireworks. :pop2:

I think Poobah nailed it. As I said before, I only watched one of YokeUp's videos, and I didn't find it at all offensive. Pompous an self-serving, yes, but not offensive.

I don't watch them anymore. I only come into his threads to see the inevitable brouhaha. The threads are like a car wreck -- I don't want to look, but can't help it. :tsk:

My advice to those who don't like YoukeUp's videos is to ignore them, as Poobah said. That's what I do.

Live and let live.

It is also very obvious that dmp was deliberately trying to stir the pot to cause a fight/spark a debate. Being a troll whose obvious intention is to cause division should of at least get a warning IMO. Not the first time he has done that or I assume last since he is allowed to do it. I see he doesn't even donate to the site to support it either, yet speaks as if he owns it.

We are all adults. If you don't like a poster's posts, don't click on their threads. Not hard to do especially if you an adult.

Jeff, ignore the intolerance.

Let's see the title of the thread only has a contest and his official KCBS team name listed. The link has no over the top religious titles. But you decide to call him out and make this about religion and a public forum. Like the owner stated if Jeff typed a 200 word post that showed up everytime someone opened the forum then you might have a point. The fact is you looked it up, you opened the thread, you attacked a brethren.

Heck as a matter of fact your big green egg in your signature line offends me. Everytime I see a post by you with the big green egg signature line I an going to report you. Of course I will have to seek out and open your threads to find the signature but don't let's trivial things like that get in the way of a good post right???

Oh and one more thing the government doesn't give anything. It's power comes from the people and the People have time and again upheld freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

I just read BBQChef33's statement on this discussion and I have to say that I am genuinely impressed that freedom and adherance to the rules is being followed in the face of a minority discension. Today, in America, the freedoms of many are cancelled out to the vocal minority who don't exercise their freedom to "ignore", but push to eliminate the other side's rights... three cheers for the BBQ Bretheren Admin team....

and btw.... I started holding church services at the competitions I attend...they are short and sweet from 6-6:20AM at the turn-in spot... I've held 3 and out of each, we have had 3 RGC and 2 GC's in attendance..... :) just saying... God bless everyone of you whether you like it or not... :)

the horse is dead. Let it go. Dan voiced his opinion TESPECTFULLY as were his requests. There is no need to further discuss ir or pile on since i have clearly stated our ifficial position.

And to make it known, Dan is NOT alone in his feelings nor is he the minority. He just happens to be the one voicing it publicly but rest assured i have more messages stating discomfort over our forum allowing this than advocating it to. As i said before, our demographic goes very far beyond christianity and this is not comforting to the 'majority' as assumed. We would much prefer a neutral stance be taken but have not planned for this when we set our guidelines. If it continues to be a sticking point we will address things accordingly.

So, attending your church service gets an attendee a RGC or GC? So when is the next one....I'll try anything once. Now that's a marketing plan.
