Abe's 48" insulated cabinet smoker seasoning, first cook and thoughts

Alamar - do you think you could fit 2 briskets per rack? I don't have 2 briskets to test fit right now.

Mine gets delivered tomorrow!
I was wondering when you would join the party. If it went anything like my delivery...it will be a day late and then 3 hours late on the day they finally deliver it. Not Kevin's fault but man was it drving me crazy. You will not require any caffiene tomorrow.

You are probably right, especially one on wheels. However, you did mention that it was heavy I think. Could be a deciding factor if you locked the wheels and limited his intake of "adult beverages"! :boxing:

Blessings,
Omar
We forgot Blu...he is the closest one to me. I would be honored to learn something from that wiley old bbq veteran! I drive thru Jonesboro every few months and there is not much there besides peace and quiet. He needs something besides cows to look at every now and then.:becky:

Well since I live somewhat close Kevin is driving it down to me. I'll post pics when it gets here.

I'm thinking you should be able to fit two to a rack on it. The height is there if the point is removed and you are dealing with the flat

maybe two 7lb flats...maybe. two 14lb packers forget about it
You nailed it.:thumb: I have a 14.5lb brisket and a 5lb flat. They fit on a rack. 2 14lb packers would require you have them smashed together like 1 large brisket. 2 10lb-12lb packers would fit better. That works for me because I normally cook small briskets and big flats. I measured ribs too. BB can fit 3 on a rack and KC/St Louis 2 on a rack. I don't have any butts in the freezer.

Just guestimating how many butts do you think would fit on a rack?
I think 4 would fit. Mine has 3.5 inches between racks except the top rack which has 4.5 inches of clearance from the top.

Did you guys get any extra options on your smokers?
My options were not ready when my smoker shipped. I got the heat diverter, guru adapter, extra racks, off-road casters. Once I use it a few more times I will decide if I need the stainless steel side table.

Mine is the larger 60" boss. It holds 8 racks and I've ordered five extra. I'm going to amend my order (still being built) for the probe port too. The Guru adapter I can get from Kevin any time as I don't have a Guru yet. I'm really lucky as my daughter's school is only two miles from his shop.

I would check with Kevin on the guru adapter. A lot of times he gives those away as part of a promo. I didn't even think about the probe port. I am sure that is going to bite me in the butt one day. Must be nice to be that close to his shop and have access to parts at any time.

These smokers are nice, and I don't want to be a "buzzkill" but Abe's needs to get it together. I know of 3-4 people personally now who have ordered (including yourself) and have had missing parts (thermometer, casters, gaskets, guru adapters, diverter plates etc...) that were shipped later after delivery of the unit or caused delays in when the units should be completed.

I know he is busy and got big too quick and has had to adapt, but not having stock of basic parts that you use everyday in building your product is ridiculous to me. Like a carpenter not having nails IMHO.

Again, nice smoker and they look well built.

Kevin and I discussed this and he understands our frustration. Like you said "growing pains". I agree that he should have everything on hand but I thought that having my smoker with some extras missing was better than waiting on all the parts to arrive and then ship. For the amount of money I saved that is something I could live with. I am not trying to make excuses for him but he is 23 years old. Other than Tyler from Shirley Fabrication I cannot think of any other person that young that I would trust to build my smoker. (I apologize if you are that age and take offense.)

I have to agree with MarleyMan. I ordered mine February 2nd, it was delivered March 28th.
I paid for the BBQ GURU Port.... Not installed,
Paid for the all terrain tires... Not Shipped...
Paid for the Wood Rack.... Not Shipped....
was supposed to get the BBQ GURU Adapter for free... Not Shipped....

The water pan had a leak in it, he said I could go buy JB Weld and fix it myself, I said not acceptable.... He agreed to get a welder out to fix the leak. That happened on 4/15. Still no word on the other items that were missing. But I will at least be able to cook on it this weekend.

I understand he is busy, but don't skimp on quality control / double checking orders when shipping the smoker 800 miles, and Please return calls or messages in a timely manner.

Kevin delivered my smoke personally last night. Because it had been delayed being shipped he offered to drive down to Indianapolis to deliver it himself. He's a great guy and as others have said he's still working the kinks out with suppliers and building up inventory.

The smokers themselves are very well build. They are fully welded compared to many other vertical smokers that are bolted together. He's still developing the design and making changes and tweaks to make the smoker even better. He does want to produce the best quality smoker he can and for that you have to give him credit for.

I haven't fired mine up yet because I didn't have time last night but hope to soon.

8 weeks is about as fast as he can crank them out. Mine also took 8 weeks. I am glad to hear that he fixed your water pan. I asked him today when he is going to catch up and deliver everyone's accessories. He said that he is working this weekend to get everyone's accessories ready to ship out Monday. Make sure you post how your cook went and a few pics would be nice. We never get tired of seeing what everyone is cooking.:becky:
