Congrats to Hogs & Grogs, Unknown BBQ & Good Buddies

On Grand & Reserve...Unknown is getting way to consistent and comfortable up there. It is really hard to party as hard as those guys and cook the way they do. They go against all of the rules that you may have heard about cooking good q and drinking.

But I gotta say this...my brother Joel - Good Buddies BBQ finished 18th out of 46 in his first professional bbq competition (he's done backyard for a couple of years).

In a field of those mentioned above and...

and a lot of other great names, he finished:

9th place chicken:clap2:
4th place pork:boxing:
13th place brisket:becky:

and then comes ribs....he didn't cut a rib and caught eight 1's on the scorecard and finished 18th overall. If you get a chance to kick him while he's down, do so @ 863-221-8144 (Joel). In Florida they are calling it the boneheaded move of the year.

His Rib Scores were as follows:

He lost by 30 points...if those 1's are 7's, he wins! He had a better than good chance to take Grand in his first pro event and didn't cut six ribs!:doh:

That sux for Joel, damn. Great cook otherwise! He should take Swamp Boys Q School like Unknown BBQ (RGC!!:whoo did. We go over counting to 6 on day two.

Plant City was great as always, we sold out on the vending side. On the contest side, I was disappointed with my scores which were all over the place. I'd love to be able to know what some of the judges are thinking.

@ Rub I got to judge the shade tree at the Jack it was me another cook from Indy and 4 certified judges. Their scores were a lot differant from ours

Congrats to Grog n Hogs and Unknown. Plant City was fun. As Rub mentioned the scores were all over the place. Had 4 consistent/close scores from the judges and two were significantly lower e.g., 8s and 9s and then 5s and 6s from the other two. One judge makes you scratch your head, two kill your scores! I heard the Master Judges were used to judge the backyard instead of the KCBS comp. It may or may not explain the big differences. Who knows for sure LOLThe weather and location was perfect! As mentioned the cooks dinner was fantastic and the organizers were always around. Hope to go back next year.

Scores were really all over the place, but I still like Plant City about as much as any other contest around. Great crowd, well planned. We sure made alot of people happy with our food this weekend. Too bad the judges werent part of that group........

Usually, Joel would call me as he was leaving for a comp and ask me to come help him. With a little notice, I would have come for this one. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have turned in 5 pieces instead of 6 and loose Grand for it....along with 3 Grand in money.:crazy:
