Remake a whole batch of the rub leaving out the spicy stuff (cayenne, etc) and blend together with the current batch. Then next batch cut the spicy portions in half.

Or buy some Simply Marvelous and save the headache.... (LOL)

If so, it will have more cayanne heat raw than after it is cooked on the meat. I use country style ribs to check out the cooked taste of a rub.
