Anyone have some feedback for these cookers? I've done some searching and came up with a few threads, but not a lot of concrete information. I'd like to hear from anyone who has one or has used one etc. The price and shipping certainly seems like a good deal for this type of cooker.

I have one of the proto-types, Bob actually used this one for a couple of years in comps prior to me getting it. It is a used unit but seems to have held up very well. I love it, I have used it several times and it holds temps very well. I like the fact that it will hold full steam table pans. I am actually thinking of buying a 2nd one.

Pictures or links? I would like to see what you are talking about.

I know this, Guru Bob and the gang used two Onyx pits to win Reserve Grand Champion at the 2010 Jack.

The Bbq Guru is my favorite bbq tool.
I have mixed feelings on the Onyx Oven.

I've had mine for 1 year.
Does a good job cooking bbq.
At 225 degrees I get about 14 hour burn.
It is portable. I keep mine stored in the garage and move it out to cook.
Despite being garaged the powder coat finish is rusting through.

You rolls your dice and takes your chances. Hopefully the quality has been kicked up a notch.

IMO, I would get a Backwoods. They are about the same price. I have read some reviews on the Onyx someplace and some were good and some were not. I guess it is hit or miss like with anything.
I think there is a member on this site who sells Backwoods. Not sure of his name. Maybe someone will chime in who can help.

If you are near us (Eastern Pa) we have a very fresh one in stock. Just received it from Guru last week so it has all the latest improvements. I like it because of the weight , 83lbs. If you would like, I can take more detailed pics and post them on our website.
