I was driving back to Houston from San Antonio yesterday. As I passed th exit for Luling, I looked at my watch and it was 11:35a. I figured with a little luck I could slide into town and hit City Market before the lunch rush. I knew I couldn't make it to Lockhart in time.

City Market, Luling, Texas

Lunch:

I've eaten there a number of times and it is great Texas BBQ. It wasn't too busy when I got there so I chatted up the pitmasters while I picked out my lunch eats. Brick pits, post oak smoke. Life is good.

I don't know if it is the predominantly German ancestry of the region, or what, but the Hill Country is by far THE best part of Texas for BBQ. There are just sooooo many awesome BBQ joints in the Hill Country.

I was there last Friday and my meal looked exactly like that.

Overall, the quality was excellent.
