In the years before I was able to cook a turkey adequately, my family developed a taste for beef on Thanksgiving. Now, thanks the Brethren, I can smoke a mean, tasty bird, and do so often. Unfortunately, the rib roast on the BGE has become the holiday staple, with the kids and relatives demanding it.

No problem, I'll probably just pick up a 12 to 15 pound bird and do it up on Saturday...still, it leaves me missing days past when Grandma fired up a bird that was unforgettable for Thanksgiving. Anyway, Happy T-day to all.

I got my family hooked on smoked venison ham, fatties, and smoked wild hog pork loins for TG. I still smoke a turkey most years, though. I have a huge, ravenous extended family, so it all gets ate up. The fatties are usually the first thing to disappear, followed closely by the deer meat. The turkey gets gone more than i wish it would, too (no sammiches the next day)-most love the smoked turkey.
