Converting Master Forge cheap vertical gas smoker

Given that the Master Forge vertical propane smoker is an inexpensive sheet metal box; would it be feasible to tear out the propane burner and replace it with a fire box? I have access to steel, plasma cutter, Gas and arc welding to do mods, I'm just wondering if it's worthwhile to mess with it. I'm procuring two drums to build a twin UDS cart, but this thing's just sitting there asking to be messed with.

Go to Lowes and get a side fire box for the Char Griller. It has a slide out ash tray, grate etc. @ $60 and you are good to go.

But then again, if you are building UDS's why bother?

He'll be able to burn sticks in that side fire box.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said.... I like to be able to use a variety of cooking styles, including my bastard lashup smoking mod for my Char-Broil Big Easy gas grill.) Besides, I though the rule was: "You can never have too many cookers!"
