Wondering if there are going to be any Brethren at this comp. I can't compete (I have my daughter's graduation on Saturday) but I thought I might drag my dad and my son down to hang out.

Thought about this one and would like to go, but the budget says differently. Good luck to all that going.

Any brethren attending the Smokin' in Steele in Owatonna feel free to stop by and introduce yourself. My first competition and always looking for tips and help. Would love to visit with some seasoned vets and learn all I can. Thanks.

Yes, there will be a good handful of Brethren there. Both cooks and judges.
BigbellyJim - I will make sure I see you when you get here. Will talk with registration
to make sure you get next to some helpful teams - everybody is friendly. You will not be the only first timer this year. Really happy you are coming.

There is another countdown thread started, but is not on the front page today.

Lots of activities for the whole family.

We still have room. Come join the fun.

Questions??

Hey, smoke a lot - sure, come out for a visit. Lots of teams, we have our VIP dinner for sponsors ( feeding about 200), our Kids Q is Friday night plus there is a great line up
of Blues Bands.
A number of judges are camping out at the Fairgrounds for the weekend too - but look out for the "old rookie" walking around pulling the cooler on wheels - he will be there too and I will be surprised if there is not Templeton Rye and smoked cheese in that cooler.

It is gonna be a blast!

We're coming ... Will Ole and Lena be the grand marshals in the parade?
Is the snow gone yet?

Snow is gone. Trees are green. Flowers blooming. Temps predicted in the 80's next weekend- hope they are right about that.

Actually, Ole and Lena will be selling the very best onion rings and cheese curds in their stand.

Steely- the mascot for our fair may lead the parade. That is the parade of antique tractors. Very different from the modified garden tractors that will be pulling in competition right after awards. Don't miss that.

Really glad you are coming - there will be good representation of Brethren there.
Will make sure to stop by and say HI.

Less than a week to go til contest. There is still time to register. We still have spots open.

I wanted to remind you about something special that has not shown up on this thread.

We have enhanced our prize package. Our $10,000 in cash prizes is not changed.

Our grand champion will receive his portion of the purse, a ticket to the Royal Invitational plus a bung for the Jack.

In addition, the grand champ will get a free entry into the USA BBQ Championship in Laughlin NV in November plus a free hotel room at the Riverside Casino during the contest. Laughlin is a $100,000 contest and their grand champ gets a new truck!

In all modesty - whoever can win our contest has a good shot at any contest they
enter.

How did we get this deal with Laughlin? Don Laughlin who owns Riverside Casino and led the development of Laughlin was born and raised right here in Steele County. He is very kind and generous to those of us still living here. Then there is the co operation from Ron Cates of Smoke on the Water who organizes that contest.

All we need is you. Come and join in the fun and games.

Yeah , Fred, will be looking for you Sat morning with the rest of the faithful judges.

We still have room for teams. The weather man says the week will be wet- so nobody in the fields or yards. Might as well sign up and get up here for a really good time.

Great music, several family oriented events, and even better - time with your BBQ buddies.

We will be just visiting this contest. Had a few surgeries over the winter and can afford one Competition a month this year. Would love to help next weekend with anything we can when we get there. If anyone needs anything please let me know and will try to help out

This is, as always, one of our all-time favorite contests! Have already spent a few days getting everything in order to make it a great weekend! Looking forward to seeing everyone!!

Yoder lover- understand- touch base with me when you get there. Easy to find, one of the few with orange shirts. Hope you get linked up with someone to help. If you don't, I will see what I can do for you.

Dave, no damper on the campground. It will be OK. And I bet you won't rust.

Ryan - defending champ- it will be good to see you again. Thanks for the kind words.

We had three more teams call this morning and will be faxing in applications today.

There is still room for more teams. We are ready and waiting for you.

With just a couple of days to go, just register on the web site or call us.
