making a new smoker out of a pressure tank. Oh did I tell you I dont have a clue!

I am going to attempt to make a vertical smoker out of a pressure Tank from my well. The only problem is I have never smoked anything. My question is about distances as follows.
Coals on the bottom?
Water pan, how far above the coals?
Next how far above the water pan should I place the first grill?

Kinda like a UDS with a door on the side, I guess. Or a fat WSM, Look at the UDS thread and search the site for other upright smokers for spacing help.

If it is a water tank, have you checked to see if it has a glass lining? If so, you will need to remove it. I have never done this before. I have only made two cookers, but picked my tanks based on what they were made of/lined with to make the job easier.

If it has the glass lining, sand blasting is the best way to remove it.
