Saw someone who had drilled a hole and used some kind of insert to run the probe wires. What is it and where do I get one!

No pictures cuz I'm on my phone but I used a lamp repair kit from lowes or Home Depot. It's the threaded tube and nuts that light fixtures and lamps use. Just cut to size and lock in place. Then I stuff a small ball of foil in once the temp probe is passed through.

How easy are they to remove? I go back and forth using my thermometer with my UDS and my kettle.

You just thread the probe wires in & out of the connector, they're not permanently affixed.

I just drilled a hole large enough to run the probes & cables thru. Just don't believe enough air will be drawn thru that small hole to make a difference.

I just drilled small holes out too. I took a small rat tail file and slicked the edges up. Haven't had any issues yet.

Yup. I did the conduit connector for my UDS and MUDS but I'm not convinced that the connector is much more than just a fancy hole.

The UDS is a cheap but efficient build. I think I'll go the cheap way and drill a hole. Thanks guys!

Yeah I just drilled a 5/16" hole for the maverick leads.

I have the little gaskets that I bought from Maverick and I love them. I really like the protection for the wires.

I used a Bronze collared bushing similar to this...

and a collar nut similar to this on the inside...

I can get the specs on this if you want, I cant remember the sizes off hand. The probes have to be inserted one at a time. You do the meat probe first then the pit probe. Perfect fit! My criteria were simple finished look, easy install, small hole to be drilled, heat resistant (no plastic or rubber), and lastly affordable, which these pieces probably cost me a tad over 5$.

Went to get the lamp kit and it's not brass, ended up with a 1/4 in. brass nipple. Just drilled a hole and twisted it in. Looks nice and takes both probes, but it's still just a hole:tongue:.

Cajun Bandit makes a kit. Get the larger one so the curved probe will go through.
