Recipe: Steak au Poivre (pic)

That looks really good and would love to try it. We don't drink and don't keep alcohol in the house. What could be used for a substitue for the Cognac or brandy?

Check this out: Alcohol Substitutions Chart

I think that a mixture of a little water, apricot nectar and a dash of prune
juice (or maybe cola) might get you pretty close.

Another idea might be (and I wince just mentioning this) to use cooking
sherry and leave out the bouillon. That stuff is very salty.

Hope this helps,
John

Very nice John...thank you for sharing the recipe. It is similar to my wife`s Bistro Steaks...just add some minced shallots to your sauce...

If you ever compiled a cook book John, I'd buy it.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

I've been toying with the idea of self-publishing a cookbook. I have about 125
recipes, so it might be doable at some point.

The main problem is that I would have to cook and re-shoot a lot of the
pictures. Some from back in the day are downright gnarly.

It's funny that you mention shallots. I had one in my drawer and didn't think
to use it until it was too late. I will next time.

I used to make this all the time but haven't in years. Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to try your recipe.

It is a lot easier self publishing now that it was even 2 years ago. Lots of shops now have digital book making equipment that makes it as easy to do 100 books as it does 5000.
Any put me on the list to buy!:thumb:

Great looking steak. I printed that recipe.
Best of luck and Happy Holidays!

That picture is great. Ummm how do you pronounce aw per something or other. I hate to serve something I can't pronounce. I'll be trying it this weekend.

Awesome photo, how'd you set that up, its' really a great shot?

I was in a hurry, so I simply put the plate on our sofa, got
down on the floor to get to plate level, held a light in my left
hand, and shot with my right.

The lighting is a little harsh, and I was lucky to get one shot
that wasn't blurry.

John

thanks for the recipe. Made this for the wife yesterday. one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Used NYS, as I did not have anything else. I cannot get iron steak or tri tip in our location.
again, thanks.

Thanks, that's high praise indeed. I'm really glad that you enjoyed it.
