Hey guys,

I'm just recovering from this event. It was our first go at competitions and we had a blast. The event seemed well organized for an inaugural event. I was lucky enough to be across from Bill Moon and he was a great help and a nice guy to hang out with.

My team is Dancing Moose BBQ. Didn't finish all that great but we weren't DFL! Learned a ton and our results will get better. We did get a trophy and cash for finishing 3rd place in the Peoples Choice for pork! So that at least tells us we are on the right track.

Thanks to all involved and congrat to all that got calls.

Congrats to all. We will definitely be there next year. SAMs club was about as poorly run as a competition can be. Unfortunately we chose the wrong one this weekend.

This was a SUPER first time event... well ran. Water and electric at almost every other sight on the city property. I even ended up with a utility wash sink at the back of my sight, and electric on the line.... lunch served on Friday, breakfast on Saturday, two free bags of ice, constant staff going around asking if everything was ok or if we needed anything.

It was great to get back into action again, and what a surprise to finish so well....

It hasn't been mentioned, but they also had a sauce contest. I usually do not enter any of the extra stuff, but figured why not since they waived the fee for competitors. So, I entered my rib sauce, and my chicken sauce, both which are tomato based. Well, low and behold, the rib sauce got a 3rd place, and my chicken got 1st place that category... giving me enough to make a Grand Champion in the overall sauce category.... what a shocker......

Overall, it was a great weekend.

Nice job Bill - didnt make the cut to judge the bbq, but got to judge the sauce competition, and there were definitely some good ones! Obviously yours included!

Great event, really hope they keep this going, as want to cook in something close to home sometime soon. Apex is great place, and they know how to throw an event in the middle of town! Had to cut out early Sat., but had a great time being around bbq again.

Really great to see so many Triangle area teams - had no idea we had so many!

It was the best run BBQ Competition I have ever competed at and that includes 4 times at the Royal and once at the JD....

Congrats to Bentley and the Pellethead crew on the GC!!! Job well done!

Bill, I tasted your bbq chicken sauce... it was really, really good. No shocker there! Good stuff and congrats on your calls in the KCBS side.

Also, It was a pleasure meeting both of you and sharing some wonderful fellowship during this extremely well ran event.

Jerry

This was our first competition, it really was very well run. Took first place in pulled pork and sixth in ribs. Total shocker. Learned everything from the Brethren.

Well the Brethren almost had a clean sweep of champs with Bentley taking GC, Jerry taking RGC and top ribs, Bill taking top sauce, and Fair Oaks taking first in Pork!

I made a small contribution with 3rd in peoples choice for pork.

By the way Fair Oaks, I was just told by my wife that she went to high school with your wife. Said she saw your wife's post about your accomplishment on Facebook!

 Rich and I were extremely impressed with how well this contest was run. Kudos to the Apex Sunrise Rotary Club for making it look so effortless. The Town of Apex, the police department, water works, electrical people, all of them worked like a well oiled machine.

Also a big pat on the back to Terry for running the judging area so smoothly. He did a magnificent job and made our job easier.

Thanks, Graham! Job well done. We truly enjoyed meeting JC Knowles and John T Capps. It was an honor!

What a bunch of great barbecuers. The teams were great and so nice to put a face to Roy and Leslie, Tarheel Smokers. Wonderful meeting you finally.

Rich and Bunny Tuttle

Bunny, I dont think I personally thanked you or Rich afterwards, I hope my team mates did, but I know I screwed the pooch on this one...I know I saw you, I also know that even though this was my 3rd GC, and I would like to act like I am The Man and it aint no thang...My head still goes into the clouds, That is no excuse, just the reason why it happened...

Please forgive my rudness, it was by no means intentional, and forgive this very belated thank you, but the toes are just starting to reach the ground again.. Thank you for running the contest and doing a very good job of it, smooth and efficent, the way I like it. Only saw you 3 times, also the way I like it, much like security at an event, if you are spending losts of time with them, something is going very wrong for you!

Thank you both again and please forgive my boneheadedness!

This was my first competition and it was both a pleasure and privilege to assist Bill Moon / Smoke In My I's. Looking forward to more. Thanks again, Bill for the opportunity!

Rich and I feel there is no need for an apology. Your team was very kind to us every time we came by. Congrats again on the win! :-D

It has been passed along to me by Terry who was helping with the judging in Apex that Graham's mother just passed away. If you see this thread and were at Apex, you might take a moment and send Graham a note.

Guys, Graham's email is gwilson@prstreet.com.
