There was a great thread on here showing a village pig roast in the Phillipines, and they used coconut shells as fuel, and I know there are coconut charcoal briquettes on the market that claim to burn hotter and longer tha regular hardwood charcoal.
I've heard about using cane too, but I don't know if it's better to juice first or just add it to the coals.
