I've read on older threads that the thermometer that comes with the pit is not very accurate. Have any of you replaced this with the Tel-Tru and gotten better results? I am going to purchase an XL, and thought I'd order the Tel-Tru now. Did you order the 150/750, or the 200/1000? Thanks.

I don't use the dome thermometer at all. I place a long needled(like the one for my turkey deep fryer) down the exhaust vent at the top. WAAAYYY more accurate as it gets down to grate level. The needle on the dome thermometer will always be 20-30 dgrs off due to where it is placed.

or you could just get a maverick et-732 wireless probe. That would be the best.

Just make sure the probe is the right length. I bought mine too long and hits the food if i use the extended racks. Just double check when you order.
