I am planning on smoking a moose roast a friend got, any suggestions for a slather and dry rub? Will have to make my own as buying here has limited choices.

I would go with a straight but heavy SPOG (no slather). If you really want to use a slather and rub, just treat it like a brisket (mustard and whatever beef rub you like).

I agree with "sliding billy" Salt, Pepper, Onion, and Garlic is a good basic rub.

If you are looking for something specifically designed for game you could try OakRidge Venison and Wild Game Rub.
Click > Link to OakRidge.

Rub with a lite coat of Olive oil fresh 1 clove of chopped garlic and some thyme or rosemary let it sit over night in plastic wrap hit it with the SPOG right before going to the pit.

What they said it's more important to cook it correctly than what you use for a rub! Good luck post pics if you can
