I currently have a Lang 108 that I will be selling. It has been a great cooker, however with me doing competions this year by myself, looking for a more manageable cooker that does not eat some much fuel. I have looked at Spicewine, Superior, Stumps, DW Kountry Cookers, and a smaller Lang. Any one person operations have any advice for me?

I would include BWS in the mix. Nothing wrong with the ones you mentioned, but BWS are in the same class as several of them. I think they may be the most expensive though.

I see that you are located in the Tampa, FL area. Both Stumps & DWs are made in middle GA right along I-75. You could drive & pick up either of those instead of paying shipping costs. I'm don't cook comps, but I am a CBJ & a contest organizer. I see more & more teams here in the GA area going to Stumps & DWs

As I'm sure you know by now both the Stumps & DWs are gravity fed cookers that fits your one man manageable criteria perfectly. There are probably a lot of teams on here who are Stumpers & for good reason. I'm sure they can give you all the feedback you need on them.

DWs are not as well known as Stumps but are outstanding cookers as well. The Wrights are out there cooking comps week in & week out. You will find them at or near the top in just about every event they enter. They took RGC at this years Best of the Best Invitational for example.

IMHO, you won't go wrong with either of these.

You know my set up, Bobby.

Added the Spicewine after the move North, but when it was just the Stumps and the WSM, I could get some sleep which is a big deal for a one man show...........well, I should say the option to sleep anyhow, I guess it also allows for wandering around drinking and BS ing. :icon_blush:

I have a Stump's 3x5 offset, for the most part I am the only one tending to the cooker. I can get maybe 4 hours on a load, maybe more I am still learning :thumb: Love it though.

I also have the warmer box on it, works well for holding meats if cambros are full, also works well for warming sauce.

Haven't cooked on a stretch yet, heard people love them.

Superior's here (using two) and will be cooking solo for the most part this year.

Here's my big question for you - How do you plan to haul / load the smoker? With our SS-2s, we have a barn-door style utility trailer and uses ramps to get them up and out. A ramp door would be easier, but it is still 350+/- lbs per smoker I'm pulling up and down ramps. Can be done, sometimes fairly easily, but its also a big thing to do when setting up and especially when tearing down. If you can mount them or don't plan to have to load / unload like this, the Superiors/Stumps/DW are great cookers and IMHO can be beat. If you're worried about loading / unloading, I'd looks at Backwoods given the weight difference.

We use a Good One brand from Ace Of Hearts BBQ Specialties. It is a great smoker. Can usually make a load last for 6 hours or so at a time.

I've used a couple of the ones listed, but have decided to build my own. It will be added to my trailers as an option or sold separately. As soon as a few things are finalized I'll be posting more info in sales and ventures under our Extreme BBQ Smoker thread.

I have been cooking on WSM`s for three years now and absolutely love them...great for comps and backyard but lack the capacity for catering large crowds.

I use a Med Spicewine. I can load/unload into a 6x10 trailer by myself if needed. Since I have a bad back, picked up a small elec winch to help load if needed. Used it once. Most times there is someone willing to help load it.
