:icon_bugeyed:icon_sick FYI - saw this today, thought I'd pass it on, link to recalled products list at the end of this thread.

The Department of Agriculture designated as "Class One" the recall of 95,898 pounds of ground beef products from Valley Meats LLC of Coal Valley, Illinois, meaning the health risk associated with eating the meat is high.

The Ohio Department of Health first reported an outbreak of illness linked to the potentially deadly bacterium E. coli 0157:H7 to federal authorities on May 13, and clusters of illnesses have also been reported in Pennsylvania and Illinois, the department said in a news release.
The bacterium can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and kidney failure. Those most vulnerable include the very young, the aged and people with weak immune systems, according to USDA's Food Safety Inspection Service.

A list of the recalled products -- all of which were produced on March 10 and packaged under a variety of labels -- is posted at www.fsis.usda.gov

Thanks. One more reason to grind your own or have a local butcher do it. That's a ton of different brands affected, too.

As someone who caught lysteria from Ball Park Franks during a SE regional outbreak in which 6 people died, I can tell ya I pay attention to this kind of stuff. I was terribly sick for over 2 weeks. I have not eaten a hot dog since. Oh yes, they always tell you the susceptable people are children and the elderly? I was in my early 40s.

What they don't tell you is that the death rate from confirmed lysteria is 25%. Be careful out there!

Another reason why to always cook them burgers until they are done...unless you process your own meat...

Where are the Federal and State food inspectors that our Taxes pay for when this stuff happens?

Holy Chit, I know that place well, it is about 5 minutes from my door. I am going to have to check in on this. There is a pretty good size processor there called J&B meats. That is the only meat plant in that little town. I wonder if they process some of the meat under the Valley Meats name. they supply one of the large cash and carry's for restaurants and public buying. Mainly preformed patties, I have some in the freezer as I type this. Going to have to check it out.
