I got my UDS burned out

Well due to circumstances beyond my control, I finally got the time to burn out the barrel for my UDS.

My digital pyrometer was reading --- on the outside of the barrel. The hottest reading I got was 768*. I guess it wont read any higher. The rest of my build can be seen at http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2205078#post2205078

where did you get the hinges from? Great looking lid you have there.

IR thermo's can be a bit weird, if you dig into it there is a wide variance in something they call "surface emissivity" that explains why we sometimes get readings that are not correct.

Hmmm Well that explains a lot. I've always wondered why I had obvious temp differences between what I thought I should read and what I was reading.

If you were taking the temp of a black surface, your readings should be pretty accurate.

Yeah, I think most of the temps were accurate, I think they were mostly hotter than my gun would register.
