Here is the pit that steered me to the BBQ Brethren site and the rest is history. I don't have any before pics, but it was in pretty sorry shape, it was advertised as a Silver Smoker, but I've been told its a New Braunfels Black Diamond or a Hondo. I did the baffle and vent mods, added the firebasket and tuning plates, replaced the handles and table slats, thermometers at grate level (not shown) and added another set of wheels and a couple coats of paint. I just wanted to thank all those that helped me with info or steering me in the right direction.

This site is the greatest! My Q'n has risen to a higher level since joining this group and I appreciate all of you! Thanks for putting up with me!

looks really nice and ready for some serious smokin.

i have now been shamed into some serious rehab for the old NB on the deck.

That's an awesome job! I have the Brinkmann version of the same basic offset. Is that some kind of gasket seal in red around the cooking chamber door?

I also owe this group a HUGE THANK YOU for shaving years . . . maybe even decades off of my smokin' mistakes!

I like the wheels. I put wagon wheels on mine to help it roll through the grass and over the gravel.

Nice looking set-up swamprb, I hope you enjoy years of great food off your beauty.

great job..

but somethings missing..

Wheres the meat? :)

BTW, its definatley a Silver Smoker.

Hondo and black diamond series has a warming plate on top of the firebox lid and the hondo has adjustable shelves inside.

Heres the hondo.

Yep - what Phil said. I started my addiction with a Silver and, except for the mag wheels, it looked exactly the same as yours.
Nice job on the mods; you're ready to go. So...WHERE'S THE MEAT?

All dressed up and nowhere to go.....that baby needs meat and smoke!

Smoker looks great -

One question, it's hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like your charcoal basket sits a little low. If it's too low, you may have issues with ash accumulation and air-flow.

Looks Great...I assume that the Red Gasket Material is High Temperature RTV "Silicone"? Would Like to know if it holds up for You

Great job and beautiful pics too.
I love my good ol' silver smoker and you have inspired me to spruce him up a bit after all these years.
What are the dimensions exactly on your basket?

swamp, what you pictured is what mine will hopefully look like in a few months. I have rescued the same model!
