Shocked me as well. I was lucky enough to judge the event and it was a great time! Had some really great product overall and even got to meet Johnny Trigg! Congrats to all those who walked! Also, everything they say about Trigg, Tuffy, and Myron is right. Really great guys that love BBQ and love their fans!

It was a great experience for us doing our first BBQ Comp. Finishing 28th was not what I hoped for, but my main goals were to get all my entries in on time, not come DFL in any category, and finish in the top 2/3. Saw some good encouragement with my scores, especially some 9's across the board from 2 judges in ribs. I reached those goals while having a great time in a field of competitors that I am guessing was pretty densely packed with big talent. My crew also seemed to do well in partying Saturday night with the concession girls, although one of them unplugged the FEC120 to charge his ipod after the other one started it up an hour before the butts where to go in to warm it up, lol. All in all a great weekend in our nation's capitol.

The guys next to us, Fish Naked, were a great bunch, don't know if they post here. Almost everyone else I came across this weekend, like Big Guns, was great too! Glad to meet everyone!

Definitely have lots of practice to do before the Battle of the Brethren in August, especially brisket, the comp was my second ever attempt and I screwed the pooch royaly.

Congrats to everybody who received awards and everyone who cooked.
It was a good time. We got tired of telling the public "No, we are not allowed to give you any food". Oh well.
Our teams cook was solid. Top 20 in almost everything, but nothing stood out.
Great to be cooking with the Purple Pork Masters this year.

Hey Don great to have you aboard as a new permanent member of PPM cant wait till the Troy Pigout whatch out!!

That's a big problem with this event every year. The local media bombards the public with "Come down and try BBQ from the Country's best pit masters "and such, then they get charged $12 to get in; they put 2 & 2 together and get 5.

Huh. It's Washington D.C., you would think they would be used to being lied to! :becky:

Congrats to all that walked, and nice to see Stubborn Bull and Big Guns bring it home for the frozen northeast.

WOW! THE BIG GUNS didn't do so well! Tuffy took 8th, but Johnny Trigg and Myron were 20th and 21st respectively!!!

Congrats to all who got calls and who walked!

Had to think about that one. My first thought was "but Sean got 4th..."

Sorry about that - didn't realize until too late that team Big Guns was there. Obviously I was referring to a few of "the" big guns of Q comps - "Cool Smoke", Smoking Triggers", and "Jack's Old South".

Glad you clarified!:loco:

Congrats to all who endured the weekend....heat, humidity, rain, and more HUMIDITY.

Enjoyed meeting some folks who we've only known through Twitter, as well as, some new friends we made along the way.

Although its crazy loading into a city like DC at a late hour...it's still just such a great event. To compete against legends and aspiring legends is priceless...and their humbleness is proof provided that BBQ people are the very best!

Is it me or is the infrastructure at this event getting worse and worse? No grease barrels, no onsite judging schedule, the electric (at least where we were) was spotty and under volt all weekend.

I would say that's a very accurate statement. We still enjoy the event as a whole...but will be providing feedback on the topics you specifically mention. Don't get me started on the port-o-johns. For us on 12th street....it was ridiculous. I'm also glad we brought a generator.

Isn't that DC in general? Now, I think they do have a lot of PORK barrels...........................

We'd have been in real trouble without a generator, as it was we didn't get electric service until after 2am Saturday morning.

They really need to make this a Saturday / Sunday event on the normal schedule with Friday night load-in & setup.

The infrastructure in Palmyra was superb. Plus no weirdos trying to climb a cyclone fence barriers for samples. :decision:

I think it's obvious we are the Big Guns of Q comps. We have shirts to prove it. :becky:

And for the record, I'll say it publicly, I have better hair then all of them.
