Mine is a open top. It has a lip on it. With the lip it sits just on top. Still trying to figure it out. Thanks for the reply.
Pick my tool of choice, to cut the end of my 55 gal I have a Sawzall, a rotozip, or an angle grinder. Which of those 3 would you recommend to make the cleanest cut on my closed ended barrel?
Sliding gauge out a little to check grill temps in different areas of the grill. Like I said It doesn't matter much at least on mine but when I was learning the UDS it gave me an idea of what was going on with the drum inside. My temps are fairly uniform from center to edge of grill once the UDS settles into it's groove. I was bored of just watching the UDS cook and not having to do anything to it, so I played a little. You lost me here, "check side temps"?
If those are your choices, a Sawzall.
grinder hands down most chaps cant cut metal with those things and waste blades, disc's are cheap.
My UDS is coming home this saturday. I didnt make it, but I will in fact upgrade it to best suit my likes.

Just kiddin.....all good stuff. I'm probably ready, but just afraid I'm gonna miss an important mod!!!
That's one of the reasons why I kept reading this thread.
Don't mean this to sound rude or anything, but after the first 160 pages, several thread hijacks and off track what nots, you pretty much have about all the information you need, everything else is someone's else's custom mod/enhancement unless you just enjoy the reading.
Awesome!Yeah some people marry pregnant women and miss most of the fun. Welcome to the Drum Corps. Remember to post pics.
It's pre-seasoned. You're golden!
