Wandering, but not lost
This was a fun little competition. It was the first year and the first time for the organizers but overall it went well. They struggled to get to the 5 team minimum to be a qualifier but made it thanks to a couple of home town teams steeping up (Kaos BBQ and Chicken Butts Drive Us Nuts ) and Partners in Swine (Kevin) driving over from the Hannibal, MO competition. Thanks for stepping up, guys!

The town of Moweaqua also stepped up to host us. The competition was held in conjunction with a town festival which included a carnival and a car show. they also held a parade on Saturday morning. We pulled into town just minutes before the parade started and we drove down Main Street with all of the specataors lined up on both sides. I was waving at them and they probably thought that I was nuts

The teams were set up along on side of the park on the street and we were in front of someone's home and using their lawn and driveway (they were told that this would happen so they had a car parked behind the house). They were very nice and we gave them some of the leftovers as a thank you.

The weather cooperated this weekend. Saturday was very nice, but with some gusty winds. Our awning on the trailer took some wind damage but it looks to be repairable. Saturday was mostly cloudy with a few very liught sprinkles as we were packing up.

As usual we were a bit confounded by the results, but this time in a good way, except for chicken. We thought that our chicken was about the same as our 5th place chicken from three weeks ago, but the judges hated it! We ended up DAL in chicken! Ouch! BUT... Neither of us liked our ribs. I thought that they were hammy. In fact, we thought that they were so bad that we wouldn't even give any to the home owners! We ended up 5th  Same thing with brisket. It had good flavor, but just wasn't as tender as i would like, and it ended up 5th as well. I guess ya never know! The only turn in that we both were happy about was the pork, and the judges agreed on that. We even got all 9's from 5 of the six judges in tenderness. The interesting thing about the pork is that i realized when it was way too late that I had forgotten one of our ingredients. I just made the call to go without it and we took first place! Go figure.

OK... Enough naration... here are the top 10s...

Congrats to Doc and Susan (QYD) and to Gilly's

Ron you gonna leavfe that ingredient out all the time now?

All I have to say is 5 CBJ's.... Anything can happen... I think I had DAL pork and brisket... They were not DAL in quality... But I also didn't complain with my first place chicken.. Even though it should of scored a 180....

Ron, I think you should e-mail me your ingredient list for pork so I can try and guess what you forgot...

As for the contest, I thought it was pretty nice given it being the first year. I had two 999 in chicken, and 5 9's for tenderness, so obviously they had all 5 of the CBJ's at that table .

My pork must have been at that table, too! :)

Here's a hint, Pat... The secret ingredient begins in P and ends in ork...

Hi Doc! i didn't know you were here. I highlighted you as a Brethren team in the results above.

Coffee is on at any competition we are at. It is always fresh roasted and something different every time.

Always pop in and look around a little lol, Didnt put you and this board together in my mind for some reason. I'll definatly take ya up on the coffee the next comp I see ya at!

It was a great contest, I have to say it was worth the drive and doing the double header from Louisville to Hannibal to Mowequa. It was good to see all of the Brethren out and congrats on the calls. We will be doing Jeffersonville IN if anyone will be coming let me know.
