You originally asked if you possibly had a faulty connector or something. My exceedingly dangerous hypothesis just goes to posit that it's likely not the unit
or the probe that is faulty...just that food probe with the food slot. Probably a very slight manufacturing discrepancy. A replacement probe would probably take care of your problem.
Or open the door to Gozer's temple. 50/50.
