Thought for sure Carlyle would have posted something. Awesome event with all kinds of things happening besides BBQ, and for great causes. Kids Que, antique tractors, lawnmower tractor pull, cornhole, Blues. It doesn't get much better than this. Hope to see you there. I'll be judging and hope that the competitors do as well as they have in the past.

My goodness Fred, you beat me to the punch! That snow of over a foot here a couple of days ago has just slowed me down.

As of today, it is 27 days til our competition and snow will be gone - already mostly melted and supposed to be in 70's this coming week.

We are Knights of Columbus raising money for Special Olympics.

As Fred said, we have a lot going on : great contest with the top tier of KCBS competitors plus all the teams that compete against them week in and week out ;
world class Blues Fest; Kids Q ( see the article in this month's Bullsheet); all the events Fred mentioned; plus a 5k run for the health conscious.

Besides level sites of either asphalt or grass, EZ and close connections to water and electricity, and cheap ice - there is a free cooks breakfast on Sat morning hosted by our KC pancake breakfast team.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We have enhanced our prize package of $ 10,000 pay to 10th place in the categories by collaborating with USA BBQ Championship in Laughlin NV in Nov.

The Grand Champ of Smokin in Steele will get a free entry into the USA BBQ Championship plus free hotel room at the host - Riverside Casino.

USA BBQ Champ is a Smoke on the Water contest offering $ !00,000 in prize money
plus their grand champ gets a new truck!

Don Laughlin, owner of Riverside Casino and developer of Laughlin NV was born and raised here in Steele County. It is thru his generosity and the generosity of Ron Cates
from Smoke on the Water that we are able to offer this extra prize.

That free entry and hotel room is in addition to our cash, invitation to the American Royal Invitational and a bung to be MN rep at the Jack for our 2013 Grand Champ.

We limited our teams to 70 this year and we are already more than half full.

So get on the ball and get registered by visiting our web site: www.smokininsteele.com

Cause all we are missing is you and we want you to be part of the fun.

We are where beginners become winners - Both Tippi Canoe and Lucky's Q got their first GC right here.

In response to a number of phone calls in the past few days-

Yes we have spots left and are still taking teams for Smokin in Steele.

We are only about 2 1/2 weeks out, so please act soon and come join the fun.

FYI: All the snow is melted and temps are in the 70's this week.

This is definately one of the best contests in the upper midwest. Plenty to do for the whole family, as well as a great BBQ contest.

Also, there's a campground on the other side of the grounds. Last year I stayed there Friday & Saturday nights at $30 per night, water / electric right there & a dump station on the way out. Saturday, after the awards, about 8 or 10 of the cooking teams pulled around to the camping side where we had a bon fire, some drinks and eats and one big bunch of fun :-D.

Come out & play!

No, my next comp is Owatonna. We're going to try to do some stuff around the house for a couple of weeks, then I'll jump back on the circut. You are doing the Steele comp, right?

I think so.

Dave- thanks for the kind words. Yes Sat night was great back at the campground and I am sure we can do the same this year too.

Lucy's 7 - I see you on the registration list. And get it about your first comp. Knowing that, we will see to it you get some extra TLC plus will try to put you by some teams that are helpful. Looking forward to meeting you.

Winemaster - we will be walking around on Friday night. I won't try to twist your arm, but will sure encourage you to come play with us. We are in your back yard, and I know you will have a good time. Plus I know you will be a great addition to the teams already signed up.

Dave- it is good you are going to rest up a bit before coming up here. You will need that rest!!

After communication with Fruita Wood Chunks, sponsor of our Kids Q , I wanted to update everyone.

Fruita will be generously supplying a $75 Visa gift card to our champion of the 7-10 year group who are cooking hamburger, plus a $75 gift card to our champion of the 11-15 year olds who are cooking steak. That is in addition to our lazar etched black granite plaques, just like we use in our KCBS contest, to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of each group.

In addition, Fruita will supply a tee shirt to each contestant plus a discount card for their products.

Reminder: we have no registration fee for the Kids Q. This year there will be a mentor assigned to each table.

If you are coming to the contest and have kids in this age range who want to cook, this is the perfect opportunity.

Visit our website listed above for info and registration form.

Just another way we make Smokin in Steele a fun filled family event.
