Babbling Farker
So yesterday we finished up the competition at Fernandina Beach. If you read my other thread you know I also cooked a TON of extra food ( 3 packers, 6 butts, 9 racks of ribs, 24 brats, a dozen or so hot dogs and sausages, and baked beans for family and friends. It was definitely a little much, but we got it done and managed a 5th in brisket out of 26 teams. Don't know what pork wound up being yet, but it wasn't top 5. We did a rookie mistake and turned both in WAY early.
We had a LOT of fun, and that's what it is all about for me.
Here's some of the pics from the extravaganaza.
Pre prep:
My dad helping me with the injection duty.
My oldest posing with the trailer. my partner in crime/neighbor, Larry is a retired chief so we rented it on the cheap from MWR. Greem Mountain Daniel Boone went in last. FEC-100 is laying down inside.
Smokey view of the brisket and butts on.
Ribs cooking in the FEC.
Me on left, Larry on Right, oldest son in middle. My wife bought the shirts from Walmart and insists we all wear them. They get a lot of comments.
Brisket getting trimmed.
Unfoiling something....
Burnt ends some freshly added point pieces.
Brisket box. Nothing fancy. this comp doesn't require a leafy box or anything. Probably should start doing it though.
Posing in front of our site.
Pork and some leftover brisket
Me, Larry, my boys, and his daughter.
the "spoils" of victory.
It was a lot of work, but a great time had by all.
