I have been wanting to build a smoker for a while now and recently aquired a pipe just to do the trick. I am a welder by trade and can make almost anything. I just want to do it right and I want some input. so here's my plan: reverse flow design big enough for half a hog yet can cook anything

42" diameter .313 pipe 60" long for smoking chamber i have enough pipe left for about 30" firebox or could go square with plate. any ideas and it seems the transition would nearly be wide open to allow enough air flow to enter the smoke chamber. I am drawing it up in solidworks as to design many times and cut once. let me know what you think:confused:

thanks in advanced

PM sent.
I started one several months ago, and am still at it. Ain't no welder, learning as I go. I think you've got the fire box covered with that thick of a wall. I had to go square. The fire box should be 1/3 the size of the smoke chamber. Mine ain't pretty, but here it is anyway.

Good luck, cannot wait to see it!

That will be one big smoker. You should be able to get several shelves in it. I have built several smoker but never one that dia. The left over should make a good fire box

thanks for the comments I cant wait to start the flaming hatchet and go to work

This should help with the calculations... FYI...I made my firebox a bit smaller than "spec" and it works just fine!!
The link to my build is in my sig... Check it out if you'd like. Was a lot of work, but even more fun and rewarding! Cant wait to see what you build!
