I think Paul Kirk won the ARO in 1991. At least that was what I have read on the other forum...

2004 Invitational Big Bob Gibson
2002 Invitational Smokin in the Dark

Willingham's (from the jacket of his book)

1984 GC American Royal Open
1991 GC American Royal Invitational
1994 GC Farmland American Royal Invitational, not really sure what the Farmland distinction means.

You have 2000 Open listed as Grillas. Grillas won in 2003. 2000 Open was Pig Newton.

I think Rib Stars won the 1985 open.

Edit: Rib Stars won 1982.

Mod, can I be set up to edit my original post?

Weren't there "professional" and "amateur" divisions in the early days?
I think Rib Star's win was in the pro division, which I believe was made up of professional chefs and the like.

Got me. I was just a wee lad. Richard was telling the story Friday night.

Head Country (Paul) says they've won the Invitational twice, listed 1994 as one invitational win.

Would be good to add the Jack Winners too

Maybe even Houston and MIM

Then we can really know who IS and is not a world champion :D

It would be awesome to know who the head cooks were for all of these teams for the Royal, Jack, et al.

The KCBS used to have two cooking divisions, Amateur and Professional. Professional was defined as a team whose head or assistant cook receives monies from any BBQ related product including, but not limited to cooking, catering, sales of spices, wood, BBQ pits, etc. Each division awarded ribbons for the categories and their own grand champion. The overall grand champion was the team from either division who scored the most points.

I believe the 1990 AR GC was Lone Wolf, aka Tom Wallace. He cooked next to our team that year and cooked by himself.
